Tell us about yourself!
Hi, I'm Carly - I'm a regular, knocking on the door of 40, married, mum of two gorgeous, but extremely high pitched, little girls. I work in tech marketing, which is pretty cool but it does mean I am chained to a desk 9-5 inside. So to counter act the insideness (is that a word? is now) I love nothing more than hitting the trails with a snack and ideally one of my pals. I'm not a fast runner (and I do a combo of run/walk/run when needed), nor am I a super experienced runner, I just know I love being outside and moving. From living a pretty unhealthy lifestyle in my twenties, I had children in my early thirties and decided I needed to do something about my bad habits. I discovered running, and more recently discovered trail running. In November of 2018 I signed up for my first trail ultra, having only just run my first 10k (I'm kinda of a 'in for a penny, in for a pound' kind of person) and in June 2019 I ran/walked/crawled my way to 41 miles. I'm pretty proud of that little adventure, and I plan to try loads more over the next few years. I'm living proof that if Cauliflower can somehow become PIzza, then you can be and try anything, if you just give it a go. My absolute favourite type of running is trail running. You can't beat being in the fresh air, finding an adventure (code for getting lost) admiring the view, ideally whilst eating some home made cake. The trail might be along a way-marked route that lasts for miles and miles, or it might just be along the little path that runs through my local park - trail is trail and I've discovered that you can find them anywhere - thousands of miles from home, or just round the corner. Pre children I used to do a bit of snowboarding and mountain biking - somehow its been over 7 years since I last had a go, I must do something about that. I also really enjoy, when I get the time, open water swimming and getting my Zen on with a bit of Yoga. I'm so excited to be a part of the Her Outdoor crew mainly so I can share my passion for running outside, exploring the trails and maybe inspire one or two other ladies like me to try something new, get outside and have fun.

Run on the trails, meet new people and eat cake.

Possibly an old trail mix bar in the bottom of my hydration vest ;o)
Why is it important to you to help encourage women into the outdoors?
Because life is hard, and you need to mix in as much fun as you can. There is a tonne of cheesy things I could say about finding yourself, but for the vast majority of us its just about carving out a bit of time for yourself, trying something new, learning that actually you can, and just enjoying moving and being outside. And for a regular, married, working mum of two kids being outside is the kind of fun I love.
